BikeAround - Downtown Columbia

Hop on your bike and enjoy the trails and pathways of Downtown Columbia and the surrounding neighborhoods. It’s time for our BikeAround. Start at Color Burst Park in Downtown Columbia, roll across the 29 multi-use bridge, explore Oakland Mills, Blandair Park and the new protected bike lanes on Oakland Mills Road then wind back to Color Burst Park. This just-over six mile course is perfect for the family or novice cyclists as well as those of you with more miles under your wheels.

Join us as we celebrate our Fall 2023 BikeAround Downtown Columbia weekend with a Block Party on Sunday, October 1st in the Merriweather District from 11-1. You can ride the course to or from the Block Party, but it will be open and marked from Saturday the 30th at 9:00 AM until Sunday the 1st at 6:00 PM.

The Downtown Columbia Partnership, the Howard County Office of Transportation, Columbia Association, and more will be on hand to help you make cycling a bigger part of your transportation, fitness, and recreation routine. Register in advance for and check-in on site to get your BikeAround shirt.

New this year – On Sunday at 11:00, there will be a family ride led by none other than Priscilla the Bike Dog (https://www.instagram.com/hiitslittlep/) and her human.

Timing: There is no group start time for BikeAround. The official timing for the event is 9:00 AM on Saturday the 30th to 6:00 PM on Sunday the 1st. Please start as early or late as you like. And feel free to ride the course more than once.

The Course: The course starts and ends in Color Burst Park. Thanks to the Columbia Association’s Open Space team, the path will be marked so you should not need to refer to the turn-by-turn directions.

We’re thrilled to have you biking around Downtown Columbia and the surrounding areas. As you ride, please think about how you can make biking a bigger part of your lifestyle – especially for reducing car use.

Getting there: The map below shows parking locations. If using GPS, Google, or Apple maps, enter the address 6100 Merriweather Drive. There are two surface parking lots (located on either side of the Juniper apartment building). Please park there and then begin the course.

The Howard County Office of Transportation has also provided biking directions to Color Burst Park from all Columbia villages as well as other popular locations. Please note that some of these routes include portions on the roadway. See below for the links.
